That the 53 Studebaker Commander is probably one of the best looking cars to come out of the 50s.
In the words of Nicolas Cage “that’s high praise”

It really was quite elegant. A sign of how good the original design was is that even multiple low budget facelifts couldn’t ruin it.
The early ‘60s Gran Turismo Hawk was still damn sexy.

Yeah a lot of tweets were made over the years most of them for practically reasons, like the bump on the trunk. There’s a 57 Silver Hawk like this that drives around a lot near my work and it looks really good too. I just think the original 53 with sporty low nose looks better
The 53 is smooth an understate and I like that

I’m partial to GM’s Task Force line of trucks from that era.

There is an unrestored one near me that I want, in my dreams where I have the space and money for another car...

Oppo’s resident Studebaker fanboi here. You won’t get any argument from me. Mr. Loewy was quite a designer.

And this was the first car he did for them right??

Loewy began working under Virgil Exner for Studebaker in 1939. His design influence was seen in prewar cars, but mu ch more so in the postwar ‘47+ cars. The ‘53 coupe wasn’t entirely his design, but he is c redited with it. It’s a toss up between the ‘53 and the Avanti for my favorite Exner/Loewy Studebaker.
